These Things Happen

My film, These Things Happen, had multiple uses of Photoshop and graphics design to create dream sequences and title cards that looked 'trippy' and stylised. I used these to create marketing material for the film, alongside creating a poster.

This is a poster I designed for a film I made in my last year of University. Using the font that is used throughout the film, alongside a neutral, block caps text for the information, it shows the film title clearly and comprehensively.

As the image is almost monochrome due to the silhouette effect (created through a harsh back lighting), it seemed correct to stick to a white font with a deep black background. Photoshop was used to make the backdrop of the image darker, as there were some other colours which were picked up by the light in the image.

I ensured to write the production company (in this case, Staffordshire University) and the lead actors' name on the poster, alongside small text at the bottom for the other cast and crew, typical of a film poster.

This postcard is a basic marketing advert for the film. I made it as a teaser for social media before the film was released. It shows a motions-graphic I drew and animated myself using Photoshop and After Effects. The drawing is of the protagonists supposed old house, where he painted. The scarf on the floor is the same he wears in the film, to connotate him leaving it there in a hurry after hearing the bad news about his wife.

Throughout the film, there is AI imagery I have edited to make trippy visual effects to show him dreaming about his lost lover. Photoshop was used to layer these images together, and After Effects was used to animate movement. I took one of my favourite scenes and created a still with the title of the film overlaying it.

This postcard is more aimed to promote the films release, unlike the prior two images. It states that it is a film created by me, and starring the actor. It uses a still from the live-action footage from the film rather than the graphics/animation.
